Movie: Ford v Ferrari (or Harriet)
Showtime: TBD (around 7:30 pm), AMC Metreon Theatre
Meeting Time: 6:30 pm at nearby Amber India

Our film for December will be either Ford v Ferrari (first choice) or Harriet (second choice) depending on which will still be showing at around 7:30 pm at the AMC Metreon Theatre.  Ford vs. Ferrari is a historical film based on the remarkable true story of a visionary American car designer and a fearless British-born driver who together battled to build a revolutionary race car to take on dominating Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966.  Harriet is a historical film about Harriet Tubman, who escaped from slavery in the South in the 1800s, then started the Underground Railroad.  Both films have won accolades from critics and viewers around the country, including a "super applause" rating for Ford vs Ferrari and an "applause" rating for Harriet from the San Francisco Chronicle.

We will meet for drinks at Amber India (25 Yerba Buena Lane) at 6:30 pm, during their Happy Hour (M-F 5 to 7 pm), before heading over to the nearby AMC Metreon for the show nearest to 7:30 pm.

Porgy and Bess is an English-language opera filled with an embarrassment of rich melodies from the American songbook.  The songs just roll out one after another as this tragic love triangle plays out in the Catfish Row section of Charleston.  The story follows the attempts of a crippled street beggar to rescue Bess from Crown, her violent and possessive lover, and from Sportin' Life, her Happy Dust dealer.

Among the songs included in Porgy and Bess are:

    • Summertime
    • A Woman Is a Sometime Thing
    • My Man's Gone Now
    • I Got Plenty O' Nuttin'
    • Bess, You Is My Woman Now
    • Oh, I Can't Sit Down!
    • It Ain't Necessarily So
    • I Loves You, Porgy
    • A Red Headed Woman

The theatre is readily accessible from BART.  You can enter the Westfield Center directly from the Powell Street BART station.

We'll meet in the lobby of the Century Theatre on the 5th floor of the Westfield Centre by 9:30 AM to give everyone time to get any refreshments and get settled before show begins at 9:55 AM.  The opera runs three hours and twenty-five minutes.

After the opera, those interested can join us at The Rotunda restaurant in the nearby Neiman Marcus for a 1:45pm lunch (deposit required).  The Rotunda is a short 10-minute walk from the theatre.
