Join MAX for The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD theater broadcast of the George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess. The opera will be simulcast to the Century Theatre in in the Westfield San Francisco Centre on Saturday, February 1st, starting at 9:55 AM.
Porgy and Bess is an English-language opera filled with an embarrassment of rich melodies from the American songbook. The songs just roll out one after another as this tragic love triangle plays out in the Catfish Row section of Charleston. The story follows the attempts of a crippled street beggar to rescue Bess from Crown, her violent and possessive lover, and from Sportin' Life, her Happy Dust dealer.

The theatre is readily accessible from BART. You can enter the Westfield Center directly from the Powell Street BART station.
We'll meet in the lobby of the Century Theatre on the 5th floor of the Westfield Centre by 9:30 AM to give everyone time to get any refreshments and get settled before show begins at 9:55 AM. The opera runs three hours and twenty-five minutes.
After the opera, we'll make our way to The Rotunda restaurant in the nearby Neiman Marcus for a 2pm lunch.
The opera costs $28.
An advance non-refundable $25 deposit is also required to reserve a space for lunch at The Rotunda. Your deposit will be applied to the cost of your meal and beverages. Each individual will be responsible for paying for their food and drink in excess of their deposit.
