Walking Tour: History of the Embarcadero and Ferry Building

Join MAX for a custom walking tour focused on two iconic features of San Francisco's distinctive architecture: the Embarcadero and the Ferry Building.  The Embarcadero was transformed into an impressive business district populated with hidden treasures, including the world-class Embarcadero Center Art Collection, curated by the Rockefeller family. Many of the sculptures in the collection powerfully echo the waterfront’s own journey from a tidal cove to a bustling port, and now, into a modern urban space. Join us to explore this revitalized shoreline, where modern art reinforces the story of the city’s evolution.

 At its peak in the 1930s, the Ferry Building was the second-busiest travel hub in the world, shuttling more than 50,000 people both to and from San Francisco each day.  In the ‘90s  the Ferry Building transformed into a world-class food market focusing on local artisan creations. Today, it remains an iconic landmark of the waterfront (and a popular establishing shot for movies set in San Francisco).  Join us on a wondrous trip through the centerpiece of the shoreline.

We will assemble at 400 Sansome St. (at Sacramento) and visit the Embarcadero first, followed by the Ferry Building. The whole tour will start promptly at 10:30 so please be on time. The tour will last about 2-2.5 hours and will end at the Ferry Building.  Following the tour, all are welcome to join the group for an optional lunch at a nearby restaurant TBD.  Price for the walking tour is $30 for Members and $30 for guests.  Limited to 16, however, a waitlist will be provided for cancellations.  No cancellation refunds after November 19.
