Excellent walking tour! Reserve your spot today.

Join MAX for a walking tour focused on the development of San Francisco's distinctive architecture.  After the 1906 earthquake crumbled and burned San Francisco, the city was back to square one. Over the next century, luminous designers from Chicago and New York would bring their experiences working with new materials set at record heights to innovate the local blueprint. Architects like George Kelham, Willis Polk, William Pereira, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill would paint the skyline out of thin air. Julia Morgan, the first female licensed architect in California, would also make her Parisian Beaux Arts training evident downtown. Across the city, beautiful buildings went up every year. Hear about how San Francisco’s distinctive skyline and urban plan was shaped in the aftermath of catastrophe. Get to know the architects who revolutionized the way we build — and learn all the secrets of this city’s magnificent rise to the heavens.

We will assemble at the corner of Stockton and Maiden Lane, near the Gucci store on Union Square.  The tour will start promptly at 10:30 so please be on time. The tour will last 1 1/2 to 2 hours and will end back on Union Square.  Following the tour, please join the group for an optional lunch at a nearby restaurant, to be decided later.  Price for the event is $30 for Members and $30 for guests.  Limited to 16, however, a waitlist will be provided for cancellations.  No cancellation refunds after May 4.
