Broadway Composer Andrew Lippa (Big Fish, I Am Harvey Milk) has created an unforgettable show called Unbreakable, commissioned by the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. and world premiering in San Francisco on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 8 p.m. at the Nourse Theater, 275 Hayes Street, SF. You are invited through special arrangements with MAX.
Unbreakable tells the story of gay life and our journey towards equal rights over 100 years. From Lesbian Jane Addams' founding of Hull House and winning the Nobel Peace Prize, to the gay expulsion trials at Harvard in the 1920's, gay witchhunts of the Eisenhower Administration, AIDS, survival, marriage, the Military, and the future, this show will haunt you. It will have you cheering, weeping, rising up, and boldly looking forward. The responses in previews have been raves. This is the most magnificent piece the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus has ever done. At a budget of $300,000, it is their largest show ever.
Produced by Bruce Cohen, Academy Award-winning producer for Silver Linings Playbook, Milk, and American Beauty, the show is a multimedia extravaganza of the gay rights movement and our history.
Starring Broadway stars Andrew Lippa (I Am Harvey Milk), Lisa Vroman (Phantom of the Opera in San Francisco), and newcomer Marcus Paige, Unbreakable brings Broadway to San Francisco. Take those stars, support them with the 250 members of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, a 10-piece chamber orchestra, and Robert Kelley, 30+ year director of TheaterWorks in Palo Alto, and you have a combination you cannot miss.
As part of this evening, join MAX for a pre-show cocktail party with MAX members and cast members on June 23, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bai Thong Thai, 298 Gough Street, SF (one block from the theater).
The pre-show cocktail party is a Phil Walker signature MAX event.
