Landmarking Ceremony for Rainbow Flag at Harvey Milk Plaza

The immense rainbow flag at Harvey Milk Plaza at the Castro Muni Station has been granted official landmark status by the City and County of San Francisco.  Technically named the Gilbert Baker’s Rainbow Flag Installation at Harvey Milk Plaza, the flag and its pole have been recognized as a historically significant art installation.

The landmarking ceremony starts at 11am at the nearby GLBT Historical Society Museum at 4127 18th Street and will proceed from there to Harvey Milk Plaza.  The ceremony will take about an hour, to be followed by drinks at Twin Peaks Bar.

Speakers will include Mayor London Breed, Former Mayor Willie Brown, Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, and Senator Scott Wiener, among others.  Attire is queer festive/rainbow.

The MAX Board supported the landmark designation of the Gilbert Baker’s Rainbow Flag Installation and has posted this event for MAX members who may be inclined to attend this landmarking ceremony.
