How to invest in turbulent times - or any time - so you don’t outlive your money.

A lot like life, investing includes volatility – you know, all that risk and reward stuff.  Can’t keep your money in tin can, etc.  So, how exactly, in 2025, should you prudently handle your standard-of-living and additional goals? How should the turbulence in the current financial market be considered for your portfolio?

Our presenter, Milo Hanke, will cover principals of long-term investing and other financial planning topics. He is a Certified Financial Planner and longtime MAX member. A seasoned professional, Milo has guided nervous investors – gay and otherwise - through innumerable market downturns.

Part of his secret sauce is to help clients tune out catastrophizing noises. Instead, Milo employs tools to intelligently monitor and adapt one’s long-term strategy. Also, he will explain who’s a good candidate for do-it-yourself investing and who’s not.

Ample time will be available for questions and answers.  Attendees will receive useful handouts, including generic historical market data and asset allocation worksheets for setting one’s investment objective.

Milo Hanke, CFP, works as the founding partner of Hanke & Apolonio Wealth Advisors.  Serving 100 individuals and families, HAWA is a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor with expanded offices in Union Square.  Milo began as an independent financial advisor in 1984, shortly after rolling a rental truck into San Francisco, sight unseen, thus, becoming one more gay refugee.  As past president of San Francisco Beautiful, he had led efforts to remove hundreds of billboards from the City.

Event is free, but registration and a payment of $20 is required to reserve your spot. At the site, we will return the $20 to you in cash only if you attend. To reserve a spot, go to:  https://maxsf.org/event-6142852

Event is limited to 20 people (hard cap). A waitlist will be available should someone cancel or if very strong demand warrants additional consideration for expanding the group size. MAX members will be given early priority to register before non-members. We would appreciate being notified of any cancellation so that others could go. No refunds after May 10. Wine and light snacks will be provided.

The event will be held in the community/recreation room of a residential high rise in SOMA. Address will be provided about a week before the event. For more information, contact event organizer, Jim Tom at jim.tom@maxsf.org

For MAX events that feature alcohol, we strongly encourage you to take public transportation, a cab/Uber/Lyft, walk, or have a designated driver. Please drink responsibly.
