New Delhi:  National Capital of India

From Wikipedia:  New Delhi is home to several historic sites and museums. The National Museum began with an exhibition of Indian art and artifacts at the Royal Academy in London in the winter of 1947–48 It now houses 200,000 works of art, both of Indian and foreign origin, covering over 5,000 years.

The India Gate built in 1931 was inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is the national monument of India commemorating the 90,000 soldiers of the Indian Army who lost their lives while fighting for the British Raj in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War.

The Rajpath which was built similar to the Champs-Élysées in Paris is the ceremonial boulevard for the Republic of India located in New Delhi. The annual Republic Day parade takes place here on 26 January.

The Rajghat,a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.  Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi is a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and the location where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life before he was assassinated on 30 January 1948. His ashes are buried beside the Yamuna River.

Jantar Mantar located in Connaught Place was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. It consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments. The primary purpose of the observatory was to compile astronomical tables, and to predict the times and movements of the sun, moon and planets.

New Delhi is also home to Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, National Rail Museum, and Supreme Court of India Museum.

New Delhi is particularly renowned for its beautifully landscaped gardens. The largest of these include Buddha Jayanti Park and the historic Lodi Gardens.      Agra and the Taj Mahal

From Wikipedia:  The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the mausoleum of Shah Jahan's favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the New Seven Wonders of the world, and one of the three World Heritage Sites in Agra.

Completed in 1653, the Tāj Mahal was built by the Mughal king Shah Jahan as the final resting place for his beloved wife, Mumtāz Mahal. Finished in marble, it is perhaps India's most beautiful monument and is set amidst landscaped gardens. Built by the Persian architect, Ustād 'Īsā, the Tāj Mahal is on the south bank of the Yamuna River. It can be observed from Agra Fort from where Emperor Shāh Jahān gazed at it for the last eight years of his life, a prisoner of his son Aurangzeb. Verses of the Quran are inscribed on it and at the top of the gate are twenty-two small domes, signifying the number of years the monument took to build.  The interiors are decorated with fine inlay work, incorporating semi-precious stones.

Agra has additional attractions, as described here.
